When we planned to visit Mussoorie during our Uttarakhand Roadtrip, we were warned about it being quite touristy, jostling and busy and for a moment we reconsidered visiting ” the Queen of Hills ” as we always prefer to be away from the crowds, but the moment we stepped into Wildflower Cottage, we didn’t regret our decision one bit and looking forward to spending 2 amazing days in its vicinity.
Located around 5 km from the scenic Gun Hill View Point and Mall Road at Mackinnon’s Cart Road between Shergarhi and Tundhar village, this charming cottage makes for the ideal getaway surrounded by lush green oak trees and varied pretty flowers overlooking the mighty Garhwali Mountain range.
A huge yellow signboard mentioning “Wildflower Cottage” welcomes you which one cannot miss heading this way. The entry to this resort is decked with attractive looking flowers starting from the entrance steps to the reception and finally all the beautifully adorned rooms which make you feel right at home. We were allocated the family suite named “Purple Meadow” and were highly impressed with the lavish and elegant interiors. Each corner of the suite was perfectly adorned with minimalistic décor which was sustainable and eco-friendly. Each of the airy rooms was brightly lit up complimenting with all the basic and modern facilities.
This property houses 4 types of accommodations being Family suite, Private Suite, Deluxe and Standard Room. Each fan-cooled room features a seating space and is equipped with a flat-screen TV and has a wardrobe, flat-screen TV and an electric kettle. The attached bathroom has hot and cold shower facilities 24/7 and provides organic toiletries.
It also has a 24-hour front desk, an in-house restaurant and free parking on property along with other facilities like a spacious play area for kids, round the clock room service, Bonfire and Barbeque, car rental assistance, travel assistance, and guide, luggage storage, laundry, currency exchange facilities power back up and doctor on call in case of emergency.
This beautiful cottage is well suited for all be it families with kids or young married couples or solo backpackers looking to find some peace away from the stressful city life.
There is an in-house restaurant available which serves all the cuisines ranging from Indian, Continental, and Chinese. The simple nutritious food is prepared by the onsite cook Virendra and helped by the other staff. We must mention that the food was delectable and lip-smacking be it breakfast, lunch, high tea or dinner especially the kullad tea. And nothing can beat the part of relishing all these appetizing cuisines in the open-air terrace with the breathtaking Garhwal Mountain views. Oh Jeez, we now miss this so bad ☹
The standard rooms will cost you around Rs. 4000 per couple whereas the deluxe rooms come at a price of Rs, 4500. The private suites can cost around Rs. 6000 and the family suite which can accommodate 4 people can cost up to Rs. 8500. All these costs include breakfast and govt. taxes are applicable to the above-mentioned tariffs. You can easily make a booking through their website or booking.com, agoda.com, makemytrip.com
You can visit this place throughout the year however the best time would be between March to June when the skies are clear where you can get the best views of the Garhwal Mountain range. If you love the rains, then July to September is the best time to visit when the entire Mussoorie range blooms with lush green trees and the waterfalls are its best force. Winters from December to February also make it a great time if you want to enjoy snow and winter activities.
There is a decent number of things to keep yourself engaged at the property. Firstly, you can just sit in the open-air terrace and enjoy the views sipping on hot piping tea and fritters. There is an ample number of books stocked up in the reception. Just grab your copy and enjoy reading in peace while the cool air brushes through your hair. There is also a small kid’s playground to keep your kids busy and happy. And if the nights are chilly, then the staff can also arrange a bonfire to keep your hands and feet warm. We also enjoyed our romantic candlelit dinner arranged in the outdoor verandah. And last but not least, you can just go on a clicking spree as we promise you will fall in love with the perfect lively cottage.
For the other times when you manage to drag yourself away from the comforts of Wildflower Cottage, there are several things you can do in Mussoorie.
Visit the nearest Gun Hill point to get the best views of Mussoorie or go café hopping and shopping in the busy narrow lanes of Mall Road. You can also visit George Everest House located around 10 km from the property or visit the sensational Kempty falls located around 20 km from the property.
Mussoorie is easily accessible through Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Shimla.
